I think it is a hard beer to place in a comp. Not enough alcohol backbone for IPA and most seem too dry for a pale ale. It probably should go in Specialty but then it won't seem very special going against very unusual beers.
They are changing the style guidelines for competitions soon aren't they, so you'll be able to enter them properly then. Until then you are between a rock and a hard place I guess. Just enjoy the beer Same with golden ales, too hoppy to do well as a bitter, not strong or malty sweet enough to do well as an APA/IPA. Those have been around for about seventeen years now, so be glad you haven't been into them
