how long can a beer sit in a plastic carboy?

Title says it all, there is sale on plastic carboys and I was wonder what the max time a beer could sit in it without adverse effect.

Not sure about max time but I bulk aged a RIS for six months in PET and it came out GREAT!!

My pair of sours has been sitting in there for over two years. They seem to be quite content.
