Hi - I'm thinking of doing a small 2.5 gallon brew soon, but all my fermenters are the full-size 6 gallon variety. Is there any reason doing a small batch in a full-size bucket would be bad?

Only thing I can think of is that maybe more air in the fermenter initially could mean greater risk of contamination, but I feel like with proper sanitation it wouldn't be that big of a risk.

Is there anything else I'm missing?

The two main other possible negatives include oxygen not being pushed out during fermentation due to the increased head space and more off flavors from more beer sitting on the yeast cake. (Assuming the larger fermenter is significantly wider)

I do exactly that all of the time... Primary 2 1/2 -3 gal in a 6 gal bucket or carboy. You're totally fine, no worries at all.
