So I brewed a porter this weekend which had a OG of 1.065

I will be adding 1/2 gallon of Grade B Maple Syrup to in about a week
my question is should I wait a few days before I take another reading or should I take it after adding the syrup?
 
Take it right after you add the syrup, otherwise it will partially ferment and you won't have a correct reading.
