Default Ale Pale Spigot

I have this same pale without a spigot.

And bought a spigot

I am wondering how high from the bottom I should drill the hole. Does anyone have a measurement.

I will sometimes ferment in the bucket and then transfer to secondary

Many times I will ferment in my DIY fermenter and bottle right from it. I would like to be able to do this without sucking out the trub.

I currently have 6 buckets which all have spigots on them. The holes vary from 1 1/2 '' to 2 1/2 '' up from the bottom. For bottling I use the ones which are 1 1/2' from the bottom and utilize a dip tube to drain it dry. I use a dip tube in the others as well... for big beers with a lot of trub and yeast I use the ones which have the spigots 2 1/2'' up and turn the dip tube to the side and cant the bucket a few degrees away from the spigot. Works like a charm. Good luck.

Easy to make a dip tube for the inside... http://www.homebrewtalk.com/f35/bott...ebrewer-94812/ or buy this: http://www.williamsbrewing.com/INVER...-P179C104.aspx and or this: http://www.williamsbrewing.com/TRANS...-P172C104.aspx

They work great and are very easy to take apart and clean in all of a few seconds. If you want to mount them a tad higher you can use a short piece of racking cane or a tube of some sort to reach to the bottom for bottling. Makes it very easy to take a sample for hydro or taste. Good luck...

I don't even use a piece of racking cane, just a 90* elbow of PVC screwed on. I get all but at most a bottle.
