What about them? You can get them all. Dry yeasts ship and store easier, plus are cheaper. Smack packs and vials offer far more different strands. Start with a dry yeast, it is pretty much fool proof and will save you $5
 
Nope, dry yeast doesn't require any starter to get it going quickley, just dump it in. Same with smack packs in general (as long as it isn't too high of a OG), vials from White Labs need a starter usually.
 
For my first brew I used dry Munton's yeast and just re-hydrated for 20 or 30 minutes in boiled warm water... and it took off very quickly (<3 hrs) but I wasn't sure that was necessarily a good thing
 
Nothing wrong with a quick start to fermentation. Just make sure you pitch at the right temps (both into your wort and when rehydrating)
