I got my first kit in the mail today, but dont plan on brewin for a few days. Am I correct in assuming that I need to store the yeast in the refrigerator?
INeedANewHobby said:If you're brewing in a few days, make a starter with it now! No need to store it...let your yeast shag for a couple days and your beer will be all the better for it!
ArroganceFan said:It is a liquid yeast from an AHB recipe kit. For the starter, does anyone have a link to exactly how to make one? I did a search and you can imagine how many hundreds of results you get from yeast and starter.![]()

yeast starter "how to" instructions
Six of the first seven hits explain the procedure perfectly well....

A starter will tarnish metal...don't ask how I know this...![]()

ArroganceFan said:I do need to sanitize the growler I am using for the starter correct?
Beerrific said:Yup.
Everything that contacts the wort/beer after the boil must be sanitized.
Beerrific said:you can use LME if that helps. You need to convert the amount from DME to LME...= more LME since it has water in it. I am too drunk to look up the conversions...you can do it...search for posts by homebrewer_99 he says it a lot.
ArroganceFan said:lol I wish I was that drunk at this point.
ArroganceFan said:Unfortunately I do not have any extra ingredients as this is my first batch and I didn't know that I would need extra. All I have is what came in the kit. Oh well, I am sure it will turn out fine without a starter.
1 lb grain = .75 lb LME = .6 lb DME...Beerrific said:you can use LME if that helps. You need to convert the amount from DME to LME...= more LME since it has water in it. I am too drunk to look up the conversions...you can do it...search for posts by homebrewer_99 he says it a lot.
