How do you know if the yeast stalled out on you?

The kit called for 7 day in the primary SG 1.40 Transferred to secondary and I am still at 1.40?

This is a strong farm house ale.

Thoughts?

I assume you mean 1.040, but as the other poster said, your yeast was DOA if no change after seven days. Stalling would be going from 1.040 down to 1.025.

I would pitch a packet of T-58 ASAP.
