I made a batch of English brown ale three days ago. 18 hours in the fermentation began. It was very rapid. One day later it stopped completely. Today it still hasn't done anything at all. Any thoughts?
 
first, I'd say check your gravity, thats the best way to know. Its not unusual for a batch to ferment out that fast. particularly if it was warm.
 
I've had beers completely ferment out in 12 hours. And some take 2 weeks.

Get in and take a hydrometer reading. If you are at final gravity, sit back and let the yeast clean up after itself for another 2 weeks. :mug:
 
In the case that you dont have a refractometer or SG test kit, just give it a taste. If it tastes sweet then its not done and you may need to consider rousing the yeast or re-pitching. But for sure, you should establish that it didnt just ferment out quick before doing anything.

I'm assuming temps were a little warm, but that's not always the case. I brewed 10 gallons of Belgian Wit 2 months ago. Fermented 1/2 with Belgian Wit yeast and the other 1/2 with Forbidden Fruit. FF fermented out in just a few days. The Wit yeast took about 7-10 days for the krausen to drop and hit final gravity. Exact same beer, same temps, only difference was the yeast strain.
