Got my second batch sitting in our spare room with the AC on and the room temp is 70. Hope it is ok, working on a wort chiller, got a free 5 cuft chest freezer to turn into a chiller.

Now on to the issue. I used a packaged liquid yeast the first batch and didn't have any issues. This time around I used a glass tube yeast that I took out of the fridge 3 hrs prior to pitching and when I opened it up even slowly it went everywhere.

Any tips as to how to keep that from happening again, or is it the nature of the beast.

Thanks, :mug:

Not exactly sure what causes it. I've had yeast go everywhere a few times, and others don't budge when opening. From now on I open very very very slowly and have a funnel over the carboy mouth just Incase it shoots out and drips down the side of the tube.

When the vials warm up, the yeast get active and can create some CO2 causing the "gush". When I use the vials, I open like a 2-liter soda that has been tossed around. I crack it a little and let out some pressure, when it starts to get to the top, shut it tight. Repeat as many times as needed to prevent it from going everywhere.

crack it open a bit as soon as you take it out of the fridge then periodically when it warms up. It is what WLP suggests on their website
