So I have begun recovering yeast from my favorite beers when trying to make one in a similar style and so far it has been turning out very well.

The only problem that I am having is that it's very hard to estimate how many yeast cells that I have because I don't have the number that I started with. Does anyone have any pictures of a 3 liter flask that they know the yeast count and have let it settled so that I can compare? Or any other way to tell the number?

Also, is there any downside to pitching too much yeast?

Thanks!

Well, you can really only get a yeast count by observing with a microscope and a hemocytometer. Not a lot of downside to over pitching.
