Hello all,

I've trolled the forums for several weeks now and just now became a member.

I had a question regarding yeast and creatine. After a cursory web search I found that yeast is sometimes consumed by bodybuilders for extra B vitamins and protein, BUT what do you think the result is when adding a small amount of creatine to a batch of beer? Not sure if I'm planning on doing this but really just wondering if anyone had any information or input on this.

Thanks in advanced,
Nate

Creatine only effects the specialized muscle cells of Vertebrates. It will likely have no effect on or even adverse effect on your yeast. If the yeast did swell with water(hyperosmotic conditions) they can lyse and die. That's no good for your beer making when you're causing your yeast to die. If they weren't effected by creatine the same way all you're doing is providing a small organic acid for yeast to consume(if they are able) or give an off flavor to your beer. Honestly there is only 1 way to find out, which is trying it, but I would shoot to say it's not going to give you a huge change in your yeast they way you're imagining it. Bigger yeast =/= better yeast/better fermenter. That kinda digs into the realm of genetics and cell physiology.

Also i think the word you're looking for was 'lurked' instead of 'trolled.' Trolls are kinda frowned upon.

From most everything I've read, "regular" creatine is not stable in water. It will become another (non-useful) substance in under an hour.

Hmmm, cool! Yeah I probably won't end up trying it but wondered if anyone had or knew anything about it. Thanks for the info :)
