So I have something of a dilema. according to tracking, i'm going to have what 'i hope' is a MA871 Milwaukee digital refrac at my mail box. but i live in a rural area and the 'mailbox' is a 4 block walk round trip. i've been drinking so can't drive.

It's an exciting new toy, but really i need to go out tomorrow anyway. and i'm not brewing until at least monday, maybe tuesday.

So what's the consensus? walk or wait? (there's added excitment, i might have got screwed and it's actually a seawater refrac)

I'm squarely in the "chill, relax... prolly have another homebrew" crowd ;-)

i'm walking, i could fill up my soda bottle with beer and drink it while i walk to the box! 🤔 🤝 thanks! that's food for thought!

How big is one soda bottle? It's four blocks. Do the mat! :bigmug:

so if i go through 12oz's in 45 minutes typically...i've got both a 1.25l, and 20oz...but i've never timed how long it takes to walk to the box. so i'd probably be best off taking the 1.25l bottle.

Are the birds singing? Wild flowers showing? Or is it acres and acres of brown desert scrubland? Will this be a pleasant jaunt?

Will the effort spent walking balance the calories in the quart of beer you bring along?

yeah, the doves are cooing, mesquite trees for miles....

i guess i see the trend....i've made up my mind. i'm walking.

And no a 20 minute walk, would probably burn the first sip of beer i had this morning! :mug:

edit: appreciate the help though, without the tip to bring a beer along, and nice weather and such. i probably would have waited!

Protect yourself: wear proper headgear!

You'd be drinking it anyway, eh?

Sounds like you live in a nice part of the state. I had the misfortune of living in Death, I mean Sun Valley.

Enjoy your stroll!

i'll post back on if it's a MA871 for $90, or a MA887 for seawater....and if it is a MA887, i honestly don't know what to do with it get my money back, or thinking of all the fun it'd still be. keep it.

"Good News Everyone!" I just got back from my ~15minute walk, IT"S A MA871! as i bought! don't have any beer but thought to check my now slighty warmed beer i was drinking the road. got 5.8 brix, with a known OG of 1.062, and known hydro FG of 1.000, it calcs out to 1.061 OG, and i've never know how to read a meniscus! it even gave me the temp of the sample!

whew who!

I picked up a "non functional" MA871 on here a while back and got it working again. It's a fun little toy

i'm ecstatic! can't wait for my first brew with it! i'm going to have to work on my math skills though, going to be a lot harder to multiply by 4 with 0.1 accuracy!
