If it's just in the sealer then lightly sand it out and try to touch up the best you can with a like sealer. If it's all the way to the wood, then that's another story.

Yea that's what I'm afraid of. If it penetrated the wood. I'm a woodworker on the side and was afraid of this. Fingers crossed. I know it'll be nearly impossible to sand and patch to match adjacent finishes that are years old.

This is a reason to refinish your floors! Or buy a rug.... My guess is sanding and sealing is the best quick/cheap approach, is it actually super noticeable?

I had an explosive fermentation that stained the ceiling in an apartment. Luckily they didn't look up when it came to our deposit. Best of luck.

Tell the landlord or the wife that it's a rust stain from their/your sub standard plumbing.

Problem sloved.

Is that real wood or printed laminate or crap with a wood veneer?

If is real wood and the surface covering is still intact mix 1 to 2 drops of bleach with 1 tablespoon of water. Apply to stain with a cotton swab. Wipe off after a few seconds with damp cloth and dry. Repeat several times. If you do not see stain lighten add 4 drops of bleach to your water and repeat process. Be sure to keep floor dry except when solution is on stain and be sure to rinse with your damp cloth and dry. Be sure to keep your damp cloth rinsed of bleach. Repeat the process until the stain matches the surrounding area. Try to apply solution to the stain only and do not allow it to soak into the wood. I don't recommend using oxxy clean unless you are using it as a thick paste but you need to remove and dry the area frequently and not allow it to soak the wood.

Thanks for the reply all! I'll keep you posted how to fix it. It's actually out at my parents house so I plan to tackle it next weekend.
