So I brewed my first batch yesterday in over 25 years. I used hop pellets in the boil. After cooling and transfering to primary I left behind the hops at the bottom of the pot. Should I have added them for flavor or at that point are they spent? Its an IPA and will be dry hopping next week.

Leaving boil hops behind was the right thing to do. They are spent. Dry hopping would be your next step for hop character on the cold side. Welcome back!

The hops left behind in the pot are well spent. You are going to have to use fresh hops for the dry hop. I hope this helps.

You could say that. Got married and had 5 kids in 8 years!! Never gave up on drinking beer as it was very necessary as those were some crazy times! Kids are older now and I have more time. Super excited to get back into it and this forum has been a great wealth of info!!
