Ok left my new wort chiller in the utility sink with apparently some water still in it and it has that nice green corrosion on it. So can I brush this of or star san the hell out of it or just trash it? Never thought that it would be so easy to corrode.

U can do the star san thing or u can do a solution of vinegar and water I forget the mix ratio Google copper tarnish and vinegar u will find a answer

Not sure, if its copper its oxidation or in other words rust a vinegar solution might help strip it off. Although I'm not sure if it is even dangerous.

Nah, it's ruined. Please PM me for an address to send it to. I will make sure it is recycled in a responsible manner.

You can get some sanding cloth to take it off. It might be a huge pain, but that'll learn ya to leave it in the sink.

yep, i figured it was -recoverable- :)

I seriously have used it once and its SO MUCH better than the ice baths... I mean cmon...

I think I will try to do a wash with star san and scrub it with something like a wire brush or wire sponge thingy.

Thanks for the feedback

Update: I just have it soaking in star san right now and it practically looks brand new. just took a sponge with the scrubber side and went around all the copper coils....looks great.

Star San is a wonder chemical. :)

Just remember that Star San and Vinegar are VERY acidic, and would love to dissolve your entire chiller if given the chance. The reason they work so well is the acid actually eats the corrosion (and the bare metal) off. Be sure to wash and rinse your clean chiller REALLY REALLY well so you don't get holes and start pumping hose water into your wort.
