A number of breweries, including Stone, sell their spent grain to ranches for feed. It's a great way to brew sustainably and feel good about it.

Yes and mashed grains are even better. Extracting the sugars leaves a high protein feed. Golden Valley's owner has a beef ranch and the spent grains are an important part of the diet.

I suspect to the average-sized horse, the steeped grains from a 5 gallon batch would fall into the treat category.

Yea, many (most?) breweries sell spent grain to ranches and farms for feed.

Where I am apprenticing our grain is sold to 2 ranches for cattle feed.

My dogs and the wild birds outside won't touch my spent grains. So it goes to the compost pile.

Funny I had to take the spent grains away from my dog yesterday in order to feed to the horses.

One of my friends lives near a farm that has but one horse.

You can go out and not see any evidence of a horse but, in near perfect timing, as soon as the mash is done that horse comes around every time. He feeds it the spent grains. And the horse loves him for that.

Grew up on a dairy farm we use to buy the spent grains for the cows. They loved them and it is good for them!
