So I entered three brews in my first competition this weekend, and ended up winning a gold and a bronze!!! Just wanted to thank this community; I have come a long way in the past 3+ years since I started brewing, and I attribute most of that to what I have learned on this board.

Congrats mang.

need more info: what beers were entered and photos of said winning beers?

With pleasure! I don't have any pics unfortunatly, but my two winning beers were my cherry brown (gold), a New Glarus clone, and a double chocolate stout (bronze). The chocolate stout was based on ChshreCat's recipe:

The New Glarus clone: this brew was based on the recipe in zymurgy. The link I have saved for it was

but this seems to be broken now... I'll have to try and track it down again. My third beer was a marzen that got ripped by the judges, but I got good feedback on it, so I'm happy.

Congratulations on the big win! That's awesome!

And even though the Marzen didn't win, sometimes the feedback is even more valuable than the medals. Not as shiny, but it helps more in the long run.

Congrats man :)

I've got an amber ready to be bottled, and decided I'll send it off to a few competitions. Time to start getting some trained feedback :)

I'm pretty sure I was one of your judges on the Marzen (assuming the competition in question was FOAM) so if you have any follow up questions about commentary I'm happy to discuss it with you via PM. I hope my ripping was polite at least. :)

Also, to make you feel really good, I heard a lot of positive commentary about how good the cherry brown was from my fellow judges. Gold is nice, but it's even better when your beer is the topic of some of the conversation "buzz" going around during the competition, usually there are a couple of beers which get the judges talking amongst themselves, yours was one I heard about. Congratulations on your wins and your first venture into competition.

Haha, yes Kelly, you were one of the judges! The comments were perfectly polite, and I thank you for them; they'll go a long way in improving the next batches of it. Congrats on your winnings on Sat as well!
