Rap isn't a generational thing, it just isn't music.
I was just being polite

:)
Everyone's got their own tastes, same as anything else. That doesn't mean it's not music, it just means it's not what the listener would consider to be music :)

But if you're open to listening to something that may change your perception, check out Little Simz (Point and Kill is the song that caught my attention) (she's done so well for herself), or if you want to try something on the American side, try Kendrick Lamar.

If you wanted a sort of rap lite, then try something that's increasingly gained popularity over the past say 5 years - spoken word. So give Yard Act a listen (they're fantastic), Wet Leg (another brilliant band) or Sleaford Mods (love this band a lot), or there's a big following for someone I'm not a fan of - Kae Tempest.

My wife hates electronic music and says it's ****. To me, there's no such thing as **** music. Some may not be to my taste, but I think it all deserves a chance and some time in the spotlight.

You're right it's not. It's no more music than reciting poetry is music. It's rap.
Not my cup of tea, but it's not from my time and culture and it's never really appealed to me.

With your liking for electronica and your psychedelic avatar, I'm surprised Ozric Tentacles isn't up there. I think I've got all of their albums- well, with the number of bootlegs and cassettes lurking around, that's like saying I've got all the Grateful Dead albums, but I think I've got all the "official stuff". And with that, and Banco de Gaia, again, love them all, that's about the only electronic stuff I've ever dabbled with. Must seek further afield!

A good lashing of blues-based, symphonic, Viking death-metal is about as good as it gets. Or in the absence of Vikings, pirate metal will do and I'll settle for the lashing! :bigmug:
haha, I love Ozric Tentacles :D
I don't tend to list things in favourite order, just what comes to mind at that point. There's just too many bands that I love to list everything

Are you a British exile?
I am (Not so much an exile though. Just met a girl and had to move from one country to the other in order to stay with her). Moved over here 24 years ago. Essex lad born and bred.
My advice to anyone thinking of moving to Arizona from Europe or England though - Don't. It's too bloody hot here. Find a different State that's not as hot and has seasons. Anyone who thinks that Summer for 9-10 months of the year at around 100-125F sounds good will not think that for more than one summer :D

I understand where you're coming from and I can agree for the most part. Considering my past work life I need to be careful what I listen to as far as music goes. There's just some things I'm not going to waste my hearing capacity on. I will check out your suggestions though!

I wouldn't move to the US tbh.

Wisconsin

I wouldn't move to the US tbh.
And that's completely understandable. I wouldn't recommend anyone emigrates anywhere tbh. It's one of the toughest things anyone will ever do.

Wisconsin
Sorry, I also can't recommend land locked states :D That's been harder for me than the heat here in AZ. I grew up on the coast line, and not being able to see the ocean every day and hear/smell it is not the easiest thing to live with. Eventually we'll move to Oregon and be beside the seaside :D and enjoy seasonal weather that's about as close to England as you can get in the States.

Sorry Womble, your thread has gone all over the place.

Womble you’ve gone underground and overground and Wombled free, all over the place that’s common. Apologies to our US members the Wombles was a kids tv series in the 70’s in Britain.

Wisconsin isn't land locked, Lake Michigan is within eye sight from me and it's just as beautiful as the ocean view I see every trip to Florida.

Moved out of the UK in 1991, permanently. I would recommend emigration, best thing I ever did, what an adventure. Very very hard, particularly early on but what an adventure.

My thread .... never was my thread, I just got the ball rolling. I like banter, the quicker things go off topic the better !

I will check out your suggestions though!
Can't say fairer than that. I shall too.
My suggestion that rap isn't music any more than poetry is music wasn't to denigrate either of them. I love poetry in general (even Prostetnic Vogon Jeltz', while I struggle with some others). Rap, too, is something other than music.
In my opinion.
So Yard Act, here we come. I had already heard Wet Leg and didn't like.

Never heard of them. Listened to a couple and they're deffo worth more than a quick blast on Youtube. Yard Act is going to get some airtime tomorrow.
Wet Leg had only just released Chaise Longue when I heard them. A wider repertoire now. Sadly.
Point and Kill. Great composition, love it. It's got rap in in, but it;s not rap from beginning to end by any means. Will have a proper listen tomorrow.

Thank you @sixstring for some great musical leads for the coming week.

Ok, Radio 6 just played an Opera song on Guy Garvey's Sunday evening/night show.
And it was rather nice actually: La Rondine - Chi il bel sogno di doretta
