Wodden mash paddle?

So should I get one? I have on my list of items a digital ph meter and the one I will get is pricey. I am just curious if a wodden spoon would work just as well. I found that when I doing my decoction mashing that the spoon I have scratch the bottom of my pots. Not a huge deal I am sure, but I think I want to avoid that. So basically, does a spoon work?

The advantage to the paddle is allowing you to move more grain with less mixing. A spoon gets it done, just takes longer.

Get a Bayou paddle from Home Depot. $7, 36" long. Does a great job.
