Brewed up a pilsner and trying wlp800, made a starter stepped it up to make a 2 liter.
OG 1.050 24hrs later still no signs of activity. starting to sweat a little, I hate when fermentation takes more then 24hrs to start.
has anyone else noticed a long lag time for WLP800?

When I got home last night I took a peek and it had a krausen on it so just over 24hrs it took to start.
The starters seemed slow too.

What temperature are you fermenting at? It's actually an ale yeast, not a true lager yeast, so it doesn't need to be quite as cold as true lager yeasts and may take a while to get going at those temperatures.

I have a pilsner fermenting right now with WLP800 in the low 50s. At 24 hours I had blow-off activity. At 12 hours I didn't hear bubbling but I did smell CO2 in the chest freezer ferm chamber, so I think it was doing something. Just because you don't hear tons of bubbling for 24 hours doesn't necessarily mean it took that long to get going.

fermenting at 51F
yeah i peeked so no krausen and my tilt hydrometer didnt show any drop.
i stopped going by bubble activity a few years back:)
down to 1.044 now but the krausen is only 1in thick, so i dont need to worry about blowoff tube for now:)
cheers
