Wiring a 12v cooling fan.

Can any one tell me if this power source is ok to use with these case fans?

I tried it, and it did in fact power them up. But Im not sure it it's the correct one to use.

That power supply will power one or the other but not rated for both. 500ma is equal to .5 amp and the one fan is .42 amp.

For the 12V fans the mA rating on the power supply seems fine. If you have a volt meter, measure DC voltage with the fans running and confirm it's greater than 12V. Unregulated power supplies generally hit the rated voltage only at the max current.

Yeah.. as it has already been said you need another power source that puts out more than 500mA. Look for one that does at least 1000mA (or 1A). Also, you can run those fans with a lower voltage power supply, but they will not turn as fast and as such not move as much air. Just a thought.

Actually, the wall wart shown has sufficient output current, the problem is according to its labeling its output is AC while the fans require DC!

That will not work but I am sure you can pick up a wall wart at Radio Shack that will work just fine.

Opps.. you are correct. I skimmed over the numbers on it but missed that the output was AC.

Did the fans spin? If so, either the transformer is either mislabeled, or the fans have some diodes in them which basically convert the ac to dc. Either way the amp output of the transformer is a little low to run both fans at the same time. This transformer will probably run hot if you let the fans run for a longer period of time.

I missed the AC... That's not going to work

I have a power supply in classifieds that will power 10 of those fans.. 12vdc 4.2 amp open frame power supply.
