Just finished my first brew with the wilser bag, and it is so bad @ass. Wish I would have gotten this bag sooner! Ample room in the bag, secures great with the draw string and pinch-hold thing, catches so much more grain sediment, and it cleans beautifully. Customer for life! :rockin:

Yes, here is a pic of the "draw string thing", new addition to the bags, and like you we should have added these long ago. Works well to secure the bag over the kettle rim, then keeps the bag shut nicely post mash.

Thanks!
Wilser

That "draw string thing", is a great mod to your bags. I wonder who gave you that idea?

Yes, credit goes to PackerfaninSanDiego! Thank you, I will even admit I was reluctant to implement this improvement, for fear of unknowns and change. But am quite happy with the results and can happily say good bye to the binder clips! This nicely completes a drawstring bag, which I feel is the best, most useful, practical and economical design for a BIAB bag.

I need to order a new one soon, after a year one spot on the seam has come undone. Been holding it shut with a paper clamp lol. Great bags though!

Will you share the source and/or mfg part no. for those clips? Your bags hold up so well I don't know when I will need another one, but would like to add a clip.

Brew on :mug:

Yes, please - or offer those of us who have a previous model the opportunity to order the clip from you?

Thank you,
Cody

Wilserbrewer,

I'm using a bag made of poly voile right now and the problem I'm having is that the mesh is so fine that when I pull the bag, I can still see liquid sitting on top of the grains. This liquid slowly drains out.

If I were doing a simple BIAB, this won't be a problem, but I've got the whole recirculating eBIAB thing happening and I'm hooked on being able to repeatably hold mash temps. I've had a few stuck re-circulations after dough-in and I'm looking for a bag that has a more open weave.

Since every system is different, I think the characteristic I'm looking for is a bag that drains quickly. Does this describe your bags?

thanks,

I'm not Wliserbrewer, but I can tell you from experience that his bags drain very quickly.

Wait, that just doesn't sound right, does it. :D

bigdubz,

While I don't know how fast you are trying to recirculate, or how fine your grain is crushed, or many other variables of your system, I can say that I have never heard of this problem happening with my product.

Thanks for the reply Wilser and Inkleg.

Crush is from a Barley Crusher mill set to the thickness of a credit card, single pass through and I use a March 809 pump with the output ball valve set at about 1/3 open. This is for a 82 qt Bayou Classic pot with a full sized false bottom.

Like you say, every system is different, and even between comparable systems technique will vary.

thanks again for the info.

I have this same mill and I only do single-pass milling and I have very good drainage through the Wilserbrewer bag. That said, I drain mine by raising it above the kettle, so unless you have a false bottom, you could still have an issue.

Is there anything that would prevent one of your bags from being used in a RIMs system inside an igloo cooler? My grain dumping location is nowhere near a hose, which makes cleanup a pain in the butt, but having a bag to keep the grain contained would be quite helpful, and be another filter to help avoid gunk in my pumps.

No, using a bag as part of a 3V system is becoming more common for all the reasons you state.

I used a wilser bag recirculating mash eBIAB. It is the high gravity system so it utilizes the basket and bag. I had absolutely no problems with drainage amd i ran the valve wide open for the entire mash

Hope this helps

It does indeed. I'm gonna go ahead and order a bag from Wilser and give it shot.

Worst case, I have my old 20 gallon kettle that I could mash in with a bag, which could gravity feed my e-kettle ala kettle-RIMS.

The hardest part of recirculating a biab is being able to tell you have a "stuck" situation before the element gets dry.
It would certainly be more complicated, but after struggling for years with a propane setup to get repeatable mash temps, I'm committed to making the PID controlled temps work.

bigdubz,

This idea was not mine - I saw here on HBT a while back - but it works well. You put an o-ring on the outside of your sight glass. Once your pump and lines are full and the mash starts, you set the o-ring level with the water. You can then tell at a glance if the pump is outrunning the flow through the bag, since the water level would drop below the o-ring.

Here is a picture of the o-ring on my sight glass:

Maybe something like this will help you?

Thanks Cody,

I improvised a similar idea with a stick that I cut a notch into at the water level I wanted to maintain.

Just got my new bag from Wiser yesterday and I'll report and compare when I brew my next batch.

I'm still building my recirculation system but I plan on putting this product in the loop before the rims so that if the flow drops to low it shuts off the power to the element. Also if I bonehead it and forget to turn on the pump, or my cheap $22.00 chinese pump quits pumping, the element won't turn on and burn out or scorch the wort..

OFFER ENDS MAY 9, 2015
Thanks, wilser

Thanks everyone, all recent orders shipped.

We are now offering a free hop sock with any purchase for a limited time. Hop socks are roomy, approx. 5" X 25' and work well for dry hopping or smaller batch boiling additions. Very durable, long lasting and easy to clean and reuse.

Finally got around to using your bags wilser, they worked out great. The best part that I wasn't expecting was how easy it was to rinse them off afterwards.

Wilserbrewer bags are quality.Built to last. That being said,I posted here that I misplaced his grain bag and was wondering if I could use his hop bag as a grain bag as I was already brewing.I also sent a message to him asking to buy another one.He saw my post and threw in an extra bag for my brew day woes.Class act with quality product.Highly recommended

Yes, paint strainers and most LHBS strainer bags are a much coarser mesh that grain bits and husks get stuck in. Polyester voile is a much finer weave and easily rinses clean.
