so i made the mistake of using water with chlorine in it for a brew... will the plastic taste and smell go away or at least fade to not very noticable over a long period of time (say 6 months from now)?

Good question; I am curious as well. I have well water, any way to use this and get around any of the negatives it may bring?

No, chlorophenols are persistent and have extremely low taste thresholds. Removing the chlorine before brewing is the only way to go: boiling, campden, activated charcoal filters, etc.
