Will it melt?

I'm going to install a SS valve on my kettle. When its time to drain I plan on screwing in the barb fitting and then using vinyl tube to drain to the chiller. Will the vinyl stand up to the heat?

If you are using a propane or NG burner under the kettle, and you plan to leave the hose on the barb during the boil, you better build a heat shield or it will go up in flames.

I'm boiling on my stove, and leaving the barb and hose off until after the boil and whirlpool.

What is the temp rating on the hose? What is the temp you plan your post chilling wort to be. There is your answer. The tubing should have all info like that on it.

I would use silicone tubing to be safe. Vinyl is not rated at boiling temps.

It will handle boiling temps most likely, but as stated, isnt rates as such.

Most of the vinyl tubing is rated for the high 150's, which is quite a ways away from 212. I am not saying it will not work in the short term, but over the long term silicone tubing would be better. I know my vinyl tubing I use on my mash tun worked fine for a while and now when I drain it works but you can tell it is worn out (will not hold shape at all). I am replacing it with silicone tubing.
