So i think i got a dumper... :(

Had the thought i could save it, if only they made a black patent syrup.....

as i type this drunkenly, you know i got some black rye malt....anyone know how to make their own extract syrup?

edit: or being that it's just way to cloyingly sweet, think opening the keg and adding some hops oil would fix it?

To make “black patent syrup”: add malt to water and let steep. Lauter off wort. Boil to reduce.

To make “hop tea”: add a quart of boiling water to hops. Let it stand an hour in a pickling jar with the lid a bit loose. After an hour separate the spent hops from the tea by pouring thru a coffee filter. Add tea to increase bitterness in beer to taste.

...or serve thru a Randall stuffed with hops.

The tea idea works well to bump IBUs (bt/dt once), the Randall...not so much. Great for aroma and some flavor, though...

Cheers!

+1. The thought was to reduce perception of sweetness. Just a shot in the dark to save a beer.

I'm going to try the hop tea idea.....for 2 5gal kegs, what do you think 2oz's chinook? (pellets)

edit: i got 74g's on to boil in a pot....(it's really sweet)

I think you’re in the ballpark. I’ve had success with the hop tea. Desperate times call for desperate measures.

i feel like i got a sick newborn child...."Doc what can you do?"...I remember sparging it, heating up the strike water, taking a nap while it was boiling...and it just ain't right? lol, my hop tea is off the flame and cooling now. filter and add in about 20 min's....shake the kegs, and hope i don't end up with a still born...

(even though i'll preserve the memory by dumping it back in a bucket, adding sugar, then distilling it)

If the still is an option then this seems like a bunch of work to turn bad beer into less bad beer. Bad beer into good gin seems like a more fun hobby to me [emoji1787]

lol, kinda like that other thread. talking about brew kettle condensers so you don't need ventilation.....

Another hack is just mix your cloyingly sweet beer with a hop bomb IPA. It might be making a good beer mediocre and a pour out beer mediocre, but depends if the goal is just more beer you can swallow....

I just saved it! brewed a 4x strong pot of coffee, added it to the keg....drinking it now, worked like a charm! yea! i worked a miracle! lol :)

Outstanding!

Thanks for the word of support! lol, it went from vomit inducing, to something i think i'll do again! (with tweaks of course, i try to never brew the same thing twice)

edit: i'm thinking maybe 8oz black patent, and 2-8oz coffee up front in the boil with the hops....
