Most memorable moment/event on your bike ?

Screwing around on a moped, with beer in my stomach (first and last time)... I was stupid, but only ended up with scrapes.

Like women, bikes come and go. I bought my first bike, a 1966 Honda Trail 90, in 1967 when I was 16. I've had about a dozen since and I'm back to my first - a Honda Trail 90. My favorite was a 1972 BSA Lightning. Here are my last three bikes, beginning with the current one:

Been a while since we've had one of these threads. 18 years? I still have my Honda 650 VLX Shadow. It's my second bike. I had a Kawasaki 550 GPZ, which was the original rice rocket. Keeping 4 carburetors sync'd was a pain and it was just a little too tall.

Off the top of my head, I'd give that honor to the 500 Triple (two-stroke.)

What do you ride 1979 Yamaha XS750 Triple


How long have you been riding Since I was 18, so 27 years, the last 25 with the same bike

How many have you owned This is my third. Bought a '73 Honda 350 when I was 18, and the motor blew up a month later. Went to a '80 Yamaha XS400S after that, and rode that for a couple years. Then decided I wanted to go bigger, and bought the 750 in 1984. I've ridden that one ever since.

Most memorable moment/event on your bike ?
I have two. In the first year or two I had it, I ran over a possum going way too fast on a backroad. The damned possum literally blew up, spraying possum guts all over the motor and exhaust. It stunk to high heaven every time I fired it up for about a month.

Then, a couple months ago, I was riding with a friend on a country road just after dark. Took a turn too fast and went off the road and onto the grassy shoulder. Overcompensated with the back brake, and the next thing I knew I had put her down and was skidding in the grass. I am a lucky man- there was not a scratch on either me or the bike. My friend thought I was in real trouble. Just goes to show you to take nothing for granted- no matter how long you have been riding, and how much experience you have, everybody's human.

Most memorable moment/event on your bike ? lots of em. The crashes are always memorable. Fast rides through the twisties on some mountain road. The 12 hour ride through the rain and snow to spend an hour on a freezing beach...

Been riding on an off since I was a teenager. Last bike was a BMW F650. I miss the dirt roads, and there are plenty of them around. I will probably either get an F800 or GS1200 this spring.

How long have you been riding? About 6 years. I tried to plan ahead for my mid-life crisis. Didn't work out quite the way I planned.

How many have you owned? Two. Previous was an '83 Suzuki GS-450T.

Most memorable moment/event on your bike? Meeting my fiancee for the first time in Niagara Falls.

I ride an 05 KLR650...Love the bike but unfortunatley may need to sell......I really had desire to ride the TransAm Trail 2Trans-America Trail, Cross-Country Motorcycle Adventure, Motorcycling, Trans-Am Trail, Sam Correro, Dual-Sport, Motorrad Media, BMW, F650, GS, Road Less Traveled documentary, next year...DOnt know if thats going to happen now...

you can't sell a klr, they're not worth anything anyways. Keep it and have fun. :rockin:

Most memorable moment/event on your bike ? - no way, way too many. I've crashed more times than I can count and seen a majority of this country and a few others on the seat of a bike. Been stranded in northern Nevada with torn stator wires and wrestled flats in the Utah desert. Ridden 100mph down a Mexican beach and been across the highest passes in North America.

What do you ride ? Nothing right now. I sold my '02 R1 in Nov 2007 with full intentions of getting a used R1200GS. But in the spring of '08, I broke my both legs.

I mentioned it in the_Bird's thread when he was buying one - My first longish highway trip, I was coming home late at night. My highbeams had stopped working (poor electrical connection) and I was overriding my lowbeams, or so I found out. Started seeing from very bright, fresh-looking blood to my left. Blood trail drifted to the right until it was center lane and BAM, large dead dear. I blew right through it at 75mph. Bike shimmied under me but all was well.

The 650 is the one with shaft drive, isn't it? That's almost a collectible. When I bought my 450 I had it in the back of my pickup and stopped to gas up. The station manager was going to offer me cash on the spot for it if it had been a 650.

OH yeah, I've been over nearly the entire wiring harness with contact cleaner, soldering iron, and shinkwrap in hand. My 650 is a shaftie, but it is actually a 650 GS L (all L's are shaft drive). I actually would like to pick up one of the 1L+ GS's.

Most memorable moment/event on your bike: I have two. The first was when I decided to ride from Killeen, Tx to Tulsa to store my bike for my last deployment to Iraq. I didn't check the weather and rode right into a monsterous blizzard that crippled most of eastern OK. That would have been 06 I think. My visor was freezing up and I had to ride by watching my ex-wife's tail lights to see the turns at 25 miles and hour. Miserable ride.

The second was my trip a few weeks ago to Tx Hill country to ride the "3 Sisters with my motorcycle club. We were there during the remnants of a tropical storm so it rained everyday but we still rode the hell out of the sisters and some other loops.

2007 Big Bear Chopper

2009 Kawi Concours. It's a sport-touring bike, and my first non-American bike ever! And I must say, "I'm hooked"!!! Can't believe I deprived myself all these years of this pure riding pleasure!!!!! This was taken this past Spring on the Natchez Trace in Mississippi. Great ride, but the speed limit for the 450 miles is 50mph!!!

P.S. Thank goodness the 2009 color was Crimson! ROLL TIDE ROLL!!!
