I just bought two, 6.5 gallon used carboys and they both have a white residue inside. It's not an even coating, but appears as if something dried on the inside as it ran down the sides of the carboy.

I soaked them for 24 hours in Oxiclean and hot water and even brushed with a carboy brush...no luck.

I then soaked them in vinegar...no luck.

I then tried some concentrated hydrochloric...no luck.

At this point I'm wondering if they may have had something in them that etched the glass as it evaporated. If that's the case, I guess I'll use them as is since they are definitely clean.

Anybody have any other ideas to try?

Thanks in advance for your reply.

If oxiclean and scrubbing didn't get it out, it's probably not coming out. Sounds more like pitted/etched glass to me than residue.

Sorry man, sounds like you got gyped. :(
