So I have a bunch of large empty bourbon and whiskey (+whisky) bottles that I have been collecting, from me and friends. Most don't have the screw caps that they originally came with.
I was going to turn them into growlers to gift to people. I am tired of buying 1/2 gal growlers and waiting months for them to be returned, if at all, but I love giving my beer away as it means I brew more often.
Does anyone have any ideas for capping them? They all have a lip below the threads, so I was thinking either cork and wire bale (but a pain to reclose?) or maybe if a swing top would fit? Rubber stopper and wire bale? Anything would have to be secured to keep from popping out on the drive home. Has anyone tried this or have any bright ideas I am not thinking of?
