Has anyone ever cut a whiskey/wine barrel in half the long way? I want to do this and make it into a lamp above a foosball table. Not sure how to go about it..Any suggestions? Thanks!

Since the barrels are made out of individual vertical staves held together by horizontal metal bands.

I think if you cut the bands, all the staves will fall apart. If you drilled and then screwed or riveted the bands at each stave, you might be able to keep it together once you cut the band.

+1 to that advice. You need to secure the bands to the boards prior to cutting. A buddy and I are making a motorcycle trailer out of a whiskey barrel and had to do the same thing.

Good luck and can't wait to see your finished project.

How handy are you with a chainsaw?? :)

I'd imagine a jig saw or even circular saw would be a fine way to cut it.

Screw each stave to the band's before you cut. Trust me. Taken apart 5 or so barrels at this point. They fall apart when bands are cut.
