So, I want to make a chocolate stout using the Coopers Irish Stout as my base. I've seen a few videos on YouTube of guys adding a small amount of steeping grains to give it a fresh taste and I was considering giving it a go.

Has anyone done this before, how did they go about it and what results did you have?

I'm thinking of adding around 200g chocolate malt and 200g high colour crystal malt.

I've never made stouts but when I'm drafting a recipe I head to Northern Brewer and read through their recipes. I buy my ingredients from them too so it's not like I'm stealing.

Thanks. Saw a good video on YouTube where the guy said but grains that will compliment the style of beer, so got some chocolate malt and dark crystal for a stout.

I have steeped grains both times I brewed an extract recipe. Make sure you steep them at about 155 degrees and take them out before boiling the water.

Thanks for that. I steeped some high colour crystal malt and some chocolate malt to add to my stout. Drew a sample this evening to take a hydrometer reading. Tasting pretty good so far!
