I have a plastic pouch/bag of DME for making yeast starters. It is messy - after I used some I tried to tape it shut, I used a rubber band... it is so sticky and hard to keep from spilling and getting messy, you know?

So do you have a Rubbermaid container or something like that, if you keep DME around?

I open the 1lb pouch and pour it into a tupperware and put in the cupboard with my other dry foods. I have yet to have an issue with it, and it generally sits there for 6-8 weeks before opening a new pouch.

I use a 1 gallon plastic bag after I open it, as well. I keep it in a cabinet in the garage with my other brewing supplies. Have not had it get hard there.

I put it in a quart ball jar and vacuum seal it with an attachment for my sealer, then store in basement, probably overkill. I do the same with acid malt and hops. Hops go in freezer.
