Just got my rhizome in and curious when to get it in the soil. I will be putting them in pots outside. It's above freezing during the day but gets at or below freezing at night. Is it alright to plant them now? Also is there a timeframe as to how quickly they get in the soil after they come in the mail? (sorry if these are standard questions...don't have time to do a search). Thanks.

I would plant them between noon and one thirty on a Wednesday.
I would consider the size of your pot. Hops are hearty. In the ground frost isn't an issue. On a small pot that could turn into a block of ice I would wait until you a past frost times keeping the plants on a window. If the pots are big the block of ice isn't an issue- I would put the outside asap.

I agree. Well, not about the Wedesday- I'm busy on Wednesdays!
Bob put a few rhizomes in the ground today. It's COLD here, but much of the snow is gone and the ground is thawed enough to work with a shovel.
But in a pot, you really need to wait until the danger of frost is passed. You could plant them in a pot now, and keep them inside, though. And move the pots outside in May.

Thanks. I looked at the forecast and it seems like we'll have at least one more frost on Monday. After that the lows stay in the high 30s. I'll keep an eye on it. Till then I've got the rhizomes in the fridge. Think they'll be good in there for a couple weeks?
