This is the second day of fermentation and I'm having problems. This batch is a Russian Imperial Stout. Two days after putting into glass carboy fermenter it's foaming all over. Air lock is in place with water but keeps filling with foam and beer. I've never had this problem before so if anyone can help out please do. Thank You

have you heard of a blow off tube? If you have a 3 piece air lock, get a piece of clear hose that will fit over the post and then stick the other end in a glass of sanitized water. Oh yeah, don't worry about any bad things getting into your brew...the foaming keeps everything out...

here's my blowoff tube

Welcome to HBT!

Needing a blow off tube is actually good news. It means you have a nice healthy fermentation going on. Since you have it in a carboy, you can buy some big wide tubing that fits tightly into the mouth of the carboy. Put the other end in a container of water or sanitizer and let it go to town blowing off.

Next time you might want to leave more headspace to avoid the need for a blow-off.

This is in a 6.5 gallon better bottle. The krausen came close to the top but didn't make it to or plug the airlock.
