Hoping someone can help identify what's eating my hops. This is the second year since planting and the first year of serious growth. Nothing else in the garden is being eaten like this. I've had Japanese beetles in the past, but they eat everything indiscriminately. I can't see anything on the vines or any unusual bugs in the area.

Any help is greatly apreciated

You're going to want to check at night, but my impression would be either caterpillars, inchworms, snails, or slugs. Most of those don't attack plants until the sun goes down and the temperature gets a little cooler.

Once you find out what it is you can isolate how to treat it though.

Are most of the leaves with problems fairly low?

If so, trim all of the leaves that are below about 3 feet high.

The leaves on the bottom foot or so actually look intact. It's the ones higher up that look the most chewed.

I've got the same problem with my Cascade, but not the Willamette or the centennial..

I tried the severin dust for veggies but that didn't do anything...I might try the spray or dust they use for roses....

I just discovered what is eating my cascade... My cat was going nuts in the window and I walked over to tell him to knock it off when I saw this ground squirrel eating my Cascade.

Hard to see him in the pic but he's the little ball of fur by the car...

I still think that I had a bug problem due to some leaves looking like they were eaten by beatles but the ground squirrel seems to have done most of the damages.

Needless to say I think that my cat needs to do some hunting outside to earn his cat treats and protect my hops...
