What would you do with some gambrinous ESB grain

A good (and generous) friend just gave me a 55lb sack of gambrinous esb grain.:rockin: I've never used it and haven't noticed many recipes that use it. Has anyone made anything they really enjoyed using the ESB as a base grain? If so, I'm looking for recipes.

Well, you can make the Papzian, Marston's ESB Clone I was talking about in there with it. And IIRC there's other info about it as well. Lucky you.

Yes indeed, I'm very lucky today. Thinking of maybe a SMaSH with this one to start out. Thoughts on a hop selection Revvy? What did you make out of it 2 years ago?

i used it in my winter warmer with great results. that stuff is pretty bomb if you ask me.

Cool Markg388. Was that warmer something similar to sam smiths winter welcome?

I'm excited about this malt. The price was right which is going to allow me to experiment a little more than I normally would if I was throwing down the coin for every batch. I've never made a SMaSH but I think this a great time to try. I'll learn more about this grain that way

I think a SMaSH with EKG would probably make an A-OK ESB.

In hindsight, after some quick research, I'd add a lb of Crystal 40 to it, to get more of the ESB color and a bit of body/sweetness.

Just off the top of my head, I'd start with 8 lb of the ESB malt and a pound of crystal 40, with EKG at 60 and 20 minutes. I'd shoot for a ratio of about 50:50 IBU to OG, adjusting grain and hop amounts to get there.

jds, awesome. Just the kind of input I was hoping for.

I don't really ever drink ESB's, not too many avail. around here in Utah so I'm not familiar with their typical characteristics. It's looking like I'm going to get to know them soon.
