Hello I am just getting started with my first kegerator project and I am in the process of gathering up the required parts. I just purchased two keg couplers and a regulator (unfortunately its nitrogen so I need an adapter for CO2). My question is, How can I tell what type of Sanke couplers they are. One of them extends further past the bottom then the other. I have attached two photographs and would appreciate any assistance.

You have an American sankey (the one with the shorter probe) and a European sankey (longer probe). As far a tapping is concerned, the American one will (as you probably expect) be used to tap pretty much any keg that is produced and sold in the U.S.. As far the European is concerned, it will be able to tap some, not all import beers. Hope that helps!

Cheers!

looks like an S based on the throw of the center stem while its open. they are usually tagged, stamped etc in photo 1 the second MM looks like a D... when you close both handles look at the extension length on the center (beer) stem

It looks like an S to me due to the fact that the probe is below the main seal while the lever is open.
