So I have a batch ready to keg but I have over 5 gallons (prob closer to 6) and only have one keg. I have bottles but no dextrose to prime with. Would it be ok to fill the keg and leave excess beer in fermenter for a few days until I get my lazy self to store to get more priming sugar? My gut says it will be ok but I thought maybe I would ask some people with more experience. Thanks

I've heard people talk about priming with table sugar. That's sucrose, not dextrose, I've read that some strains have difficulty with sucrose. Never tried it myself.

In Palmer's book he states that one could use sucrose to prime. I have no idea if that sugar will affect the taste. Why not use it and compare to later batches primed with dextrose? Actually, the sucrose vs. dextrose issue is one of my experimental projects, but it's gonna take at least a year to complete.
Can you access the Chem of Beer course at Ok. U.? They might know.

Just use table sugar I have and can't taste the difference.

I don't have a scale so any ideas on volume? It's an IPA. I'm thinking maybe 1/2tsp per 12oz? That's just a guess

May be easier to fill bottling bucket then figure out how much beer you have (in gallons)and use a priming sugar calculator (Google search) then use that amount

+carbonator cap

i usually have 5.5-6 gal in the primary, so when it's time to keg, i fill up 1 or 2 plastic bottles before i fill the keg and carb em up. another advantage is they are ready to drink the same day.
