ok, so it doesn't matter how...but lets say you ended up with 33lbs of hallertau hops. what would you do with them. obviously, i am planning on breweing with some of them, but i have tons of hops already. so, maybe i will use a pound of them for brewing before they are too old.
these are pellet hops. i'm thinking candles maybe, soap? heat them in olive oil, then filter to make hop oil?
ideas anyone?
thinking about dry hopping a mead too.
really, help me out please?

i can't sell any of them as they were a present. it's find a use for them or compost them; i really really don't want to compost any of them!

One of our employees likes to hang them from his rear view mirror............how many cars do you have?

thinking about dry hopping a mead too.

Don't just dry hop your mead...make an actual hop metheglin!

Yes, you will have to boil your honey. Yes, some people will freak out over this. No, you will not ruin the honey or your mead. Yes, your metheglin will turn out awesome!

Add enough hops in divided doses to get about 50-60 IBUs, and target a final gravity on the mead of about 1.010-1.015 (backsweeten as necessary to that level). Certainly also dry hop it as well. I've done this with both English hops (mix of EKG and Fuggle) and American (mix of Cascade, Chinook, and Simcoe). I've been thinking about doing some other types, and a mix of German or other continental/noble varieties had been a thought.

33 lbs! Sounds like a dream come true....

Why not freeze the majority of them (pending that you have space) and use what you can in your brews? Hallertau are great for lots of styles of beer.

Soap is also doable. A quick google search left me with this article:

In any case, good luck! Better to have too much than too little...

hmmm.skate park is an option. that could be fun!

the hop metheglin is a nice idea, but i like meads dead dry, thoughts on how it would be with an O.G. around .995?

i really want to just put bowls out all over my house to make the place smell like heaven, but i would fear my hound dogs would eat them, then die.

Nothing better than hop ice cream.
If you have a woodstove I would save them to put in water on top of the woodstove. It would give the house a great scent, course that is a few months away.

FYI on the bath tub idea...some people have a reaction to hops when it is applied topically to the skin causing redness. I will guess it will be hot and itchy. I would test if I was one of those people before jumping into a tub full of hops...

I personally would head on down to good old Sam's Club and buy a 50# sack of cane sugar, order up 2-55# bags of 2-row and make a LOT of cheap beer. Then through a HUGE party that would rock 24/7 for a whole week...

Another never talked about thing about hops that I have been meaning to try but just never had the extra hops, time or space to do is that if you store hops @ room temps for a year or more the AA will diminish, as we all know and talk about. BUT it just does not evaporate into thin air. It will convert into a natural form of Valium. This would be a fun project to do with a pound or 2! Then you could make up a real RDWHAHB beer!

Still have to many hops??? Do you have a wife that can sew or can you? Make some hop pillows. Before we had pills to help us sleep folks would stitch hop pillows up to put under their pillows. The aroma of hops naturally causes drowsiness/exhaustion. I would crush up some of the pellets into dust then add in some natural cotton fiber/fill in a natural breathable cloth and/or boil the raw cotton for a few minutes in the hop dust to really infuse it good! Some dried lavender would be cool to add in as well. Makes a great X-mas gift for all your friends and family.

We still have not even started to concider massage oils yet...see warning above about topically applying hops...

You do not have a to much hops and not enough time/fermenters issue...You have a to much hops and no idea what to do with them issue...All I can say Is I wish this would happen to me!

This. Haha. From what I understand, there's a diminishing return once you start going over 100+ IBU's. Too bad, because death by hops is how I'd like to go.

In unrelated news, death by hops might be a great name for a brew.

Bathe in hops, a pound per barrel of bathwater. It will be like axe body spray, those women will smell your air of nobility a mile away

I like the tub idea, but seriously, you can vacuum seal and freeze that stuff and it will last awhile. Or just brew everyday for the rest of the year!

zamial, the pillow is a great idea, i will do that for sure, as well as some of your other ideas.

hillhouse, i think i am going to have to do that too. how many hops would would it take to make an 80 ibu beer, if you didn't start adding them until ten minutes? sweet! plus, i think it will have to be called "death by hops", then, as a foreste,r i can shorten that to DBH and people may think it is "diameter at breast height"!!
ah, i'm a dork.

You need to crush up a pound of pellets then divide it into 6 plastic bags. Get to work early and leave presents on coworkers desks. If possible, video their responses
