I did a search and this didn't really pop up.

Everyone seems to be concerned about sizes and how many cornies fit, but I'm more concerned about buying a lemon on craigslist.

Can some of the appliance experts contribute their knowledge to creating a checklist of some sorts for us noobs? Any specific pointers on what to check would be extremely useful.

- Check the seal
- Rust/stains
- Coolant line for taps indicating freon addition [Hermit's recommendation]
- Compressor (but what should I look for when checking out the compressor)?

Specific models or manufacturers to avoid? Don't buy if it does/has this?

I'm sure there are more. Thanks in advance.

I'll keep the list updated.

Specifically ask if they have had freon added. If so, skip it. Check the coolant lines for taps where freon could have been added. Take the back off if you have to and check. You are looking for a valve clamped to the line. Make sure it is plugged in, running and working when you get there.
