The 15 or 20 gallon?

I'm leaning towards the 15 gallon because it's a bit cheaper as well as all the people that do 10 gallon batches in 15.5 gallon kegs, but there's always that nagging potential for boil overs.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Nick

Just use a few drops of fermcap and you'll be fine. We brew in 15 gallon kegs all the time.

Coming from someone who owns neither, I'd suggest the 20. General rule of thumb suggests getting the biggest pot you can when you're getting one. The price difference is only 30 dollars. Some advice I've learned the hard way: budget buyers buy twice.

15 will be okay, if the pot is truly a 15 gallon pot. Here's 13 gallons of wort in my "15" gallon pot

When you're in the 15-20 gal range the added room is worth it. I've used Fermcap with mixed results. When it works it works, when it doesn't you have a f'n mess (didn't work on my last 2 pumpkin ales)! Spend the extra bucks if you can swing it and get the 20gal. You'll never catch yourself saying, "I wish I hadn't gotten such a big kettle." But the first boilover and you'll kick yourself.

15 works, 20 allows you to go bigger if you decide you have to have 15 gallon batch. I did 11 gallon batches in a 15 gallon all the time, but it was right to the top.

A 15 gallon Stainless low profile pot is massive. I just got mine today after converting a new 10g rubbermaid to Mash Lauter Tun Saturday after brewing my 3rd and final extract / grain Citra ipa batch friday on my puny turkey fryer, now my HLT. Got a good price without spigot about 150 ballpark. I will have a hard time outgrowing the beast. Looking forward to more budget friendly double batches without expensive extract! Next is kegging... Hehe.
