What is a hoppenweis? I see that there's a wiki page for it, but there's no information entered there. Nevertheless, just going by the name, I'm intrigued...

From http://hedonistbeerjive.blogspot.com/2009/02/schneider-weissbrooklyn-brewings-hopfen.html

This brew is the result of the long friendship of Brooklyn brewmaster Garrett Oliver and Schneider brewmaster Hans-Peter Drexler. Garrett had always admired the delicate balance of flavors in Schneider Weisse, while Hans-Peter had long enjoyed the effusive hop character of Brooklyn East India Pale Ale and BLAST! Garrett’s concept for the collaboration was that each brewmaster would brew essentially the same pale, hoppy weissbock in the other’s brewery, but with different hopping to reflect the local hop flavor.

I got one of these yesterday actually. I think that both Brooklyn and Schneider have their own versions, and I got the Schneider version. I usually don't drink hefes, but I love hops so I thought what the heck.

I'm glad that I did.

The hefe yeast that they used here really complemented the dry hopping that they did with some noble hops (Saphir). It had a good bready character from the yeast and it all just melded oh so perfectly. I'm glad that the yeast was at least partially subdued. Got me thinking about doing a similar recipe!

If you see it, I definitely recommend picking it up, just for the sake of trying something new.

I've only tried the Schneider one (no Brooklyn in CA)which although a bit pungent,is still quite good.I've read that Brooklyn uses 100% amarillo and is better.Either way,an interesting beer worth a purchase.
