Brewed some more Pale Ale.

Realized I only had one bung for my carboy. :smack: Made one out of a pop can and duct tape. Off to LHBS after work . . .

If the beer is fermenting, you're fine with just a piece of foil or anything that will keep fruit flies and such out.

Just finished an 8 1/2 hr brew day. First turbid mash for Lamebic.

Once I deal with moving next year and know I can let something sit for 3 years, I'd like to try a turbid mashed lambic myself.

And it was fine. Just figured I'd better do it sooner rather than later.

Bought a few extra so I won't run out again :D

Got my first keggin system last weekend from Midwest, then the next day they offered a deal, if I spend more than $150, get a free 6 gallon glass carboy. Arrrrrrgggggg.

I called them and they honored it. I figured they would...good people there.

Carboy arrived today with a better bottle stopper. I give up.

Time to make a starter for my pumpkin porter

Yesterday and today really. Yesterday bottled 1 gallon of my american wheat. Racked the other 4+ gallons over to secondary on top of some raspberry. Bottled my one gallon batch of a "hoppy" wheat i used my extra runnings to make.

Racked my own version of a hoppy brown ale inspired by tasty McDs janets brown ale to secondary and dry hopped with 2 oz centennial.

What yeast did you use. I split a Vienna/2 row beer between 001 and 051 I am used to fermenting out fully in about a week with 002. These yeasts have me from 1056 to 1018 in about a week.

I usually don't check until 2 weeks tho so who knows

Wyeast 1272 American Ale II. Pretty common. And I've brewed another beer with it before that didn't take a long time.

The first smack pack probably wasn't viable, but I was too eager. :( I got a second smack pack at the LHBS. It swelled OK, but I made a starter anyway. The starter had a weird dark layer of sediment on the bottom, which I did not like... I could have washed it and put in more DME, but I didn't. Anyhow, pitched it, saw very little new airlock activity, and so rocked the fermenter back and forth a bit. Eventually, it got down to the SG that I determined was good enough. I've noticed a bit of airlock activity since I added the dry hops. We'll see what happens.

Another yeast that recently took a VERY long time to ferment was the Wyeast 3522 Belgian Ardennes. But by the time we bottled, it had dried way out, down to an SG of 1.003 or 1.004. That was a surprise.

This was on Sunday. Sorry. I was at a party, and the host had told me he used to brew and wanted to get rid of some stuff. I got a bunch of hops from his freezer, a 7 or 8 gallon glass carboy, a 5 gallon carboy, and a box of various sundries.

Being our 36th anniversary,I started drinkin home brews while I cleaned & scraped the bbq pit & got the fire going. Took till 2:56 to do that. i'm an hour late, but oh well. Steak, corn, hotdogs & jalepeno poppers stuffed with seasoned creamcheese, shredded colby jack,& lil smokies....all wrapped in hickory smoked bacon goin in the pit with pecan!:ban::mug::tank::drunk::cross::D...in that order...

Sounds like a good feast - and happy anniversary! :mug:

Thanks. To bad it's the end of the month,I couldn't afford some good liquor or potatoes to roast with the corn & poppers in the pit. I love the way the grease smokes & coats the taters for that extra layer of flavor. But dang, that pecan's already smellin fiiine! burp...:mug:

Replaced the napkin/rubber band covers on my 1 gallon batches (the non-beer ones) and replaced with airlocks since fermentation is starting to die down.

Second round of dry hop my double imperial ipa. Secondary 5 gallons of blizzard ale. A little work on my brewery controller.

Sampling my side by side split batch of N English brown. Used WLP013 (Jamil's suggestion) in half and my house fave (002) in half.

Damn you Jamil!!! You're right again.

I planted hops! Fuggles, Goldings, Wye Viking. Golly them tiny leaves is adorbs.

I saved SWMBO some potting soil for her plants so that I won't get murdered. :mug:

Did you plant them in a pot to grow more rhizomes for next year? Isn't it too late to plant outside?

I drank a few and thought about the recipes for my next couple brews. Woke up at 4 am in a panic I'd forgotten to put the cereal mash in the main mash. I guess I shouldn't think about cream ale too much before bed.

Searched through my email to find the recipe for the stout I brewed last fall, entered the recipe into BrewMate, and then researched making a one gallon cider batch in the glass jugs they come in at Whole Foods.

30th anniversary, girlfriends birthday, childs first step, countries liberation... etc.. blah blah blah... (just kidding... congrats to all of you)...

I tried a couple of beers this evening.... both NB all grain recipes... a German Alt and a Surly Cynic clone.... hoooowaaaahhhhhh yaaaoooohhhhwwwww... man were they good. I might need to keep the recipe creation up to those guys. Mine are good... but these two beers are superior. I'd retire and drink myself to death on either of these beers if I thought I could brew enough to kill me with. I can't brew that fast though, so I'll just have to keep my day job.

Allegedly it's not quite too late for rooted plants, and these little guys are pretty developed... fuggle , golding, wye viking. Of the three the fuggle seems weakest but if they all die, I'm only out $40.

Last night I checked the gravity on my Blond. OG: 1.050. The reading last night was 1.012. I'd say it's just about done...

Tonight I'll be boiling my water and mason jars so I can move to secondary, tomorrow and wash the yeast...

Tuesday... bought grain for my next brew day.

today... Got a yeast starter going, dry hopped 2 in secondary.

On vacation so going to make it a double batch brew night, Belgian dubbel so start things off and then a pumpkin ale along with a slab of ribs on the smoker and a cigar. Cheers!

Following up on my previous post, I guess, I transferred BM's Centennial Blond to secondary and am washing yeast right now.

Even though this blond is known for grain to glass in a couple weeks, my best batches have been 2 weeks primary, 1 week secondary, 1 week carbing in the keezer...
