what do you guys think of Nugget to grow

I have a small hop garden I started this year with only 3 plants. I have a cascade, a centennial and a nugget.

I'm wondering if the nugget was a bad choice to grow, does anyone use it in their brews?

I grow Nugget and use it in a homemade IIPA. If you don't like IPAs it probably isn't as good of a choice as I haven't seen Nugget used in large quantities outside of IPAs.

That's awesome to hear, I like IPAs a lot! How do you use them in your IIPA? I heard they're good for bittering mostly. what else do you put in your IIPA, if you don't mind me asking?

That is the recipe I've generated over a few years of development - I grow Hallertau, Mt Hood, Nugget, and Zeus so I try to incorporate them all (but have to adjust each batch as my Hallertau and Mt Hood don't produce as well so those run out).

I really want to design my own IPA recipe but just don't know where to start from square one. Any suggestions?

Both centennial and nugget are great for bittering, and cascade great for flavor and dry hop. Do you need advice on recipe formulation?

Pyramid Brewing in Seattle uses Nugget Hops in most of their different style brews. I harvested 30 ozs. Nugget hops wet today in second year of growth. One of the bines did have an aphid attack on the top four feet of growth. Does anyone know if you can use aphid infested hop flowers if there not to heavy into the flowers? The hop flowers had small yellow particles on them, but they were not aphids. Does anybody know what the small yellow particles are? They were only present where the aphid infestation occurred. This is lupulin. That's what you want. Yellow is good!

Yes, looking for advice for a novice to come up with recipe formulation. I've seen programs like beersmith, but I need help coming up recipes. I'm more clueless when it comes to the grain bill, I've got a good handle on the hop selection. Any direction would be greatly appreciated.

It depends on what you're looking to get out of it. With nugget you'll want enough malt backbone to balance the hoppiness. I like mine with 6+% alcohol. I like two row with c60, victory, and Carapils. Hops to taste. I like 60/15/5/0/dryhop additions. California ale yeast.

What are small particles on Nugget Hop flower? Could they be aphid crap?
Will they affect use in brewing?

I make a Nugget Pale Ale that is really great, Would not classify it as IPA as the IBU is only 52. It is a tasty brew.... a good American Pale Ale.
