Too dark for Tripel or Golden Strong.

Too light for Dubbel.

Too strong for Pale or Blond Ale.

Not strong enough for Quad.

But the recipe sounds yummy as hell! :D

If I were to enter it, I'd go with 16E and say, "The hell with it."

Cheers! :mug:

If it is really 15 SRM, probably dubbel.

It really depends on the qualities of the beer and not the numeric parameters as estimated from the recipe. If you don't think it has the qualities of a dubbel as described in the guidelines, 16E. I don't think it would do well in 16E though because it is probably not different enough from a dubbel to justify being there.

Looks like a dark strong to me

Dark Strong

Vital Statistics: OG: 1.075 – 1.110
IBUs: 20 – 35 FG: 1.010 – 1.024
SRM: 12 – 22 ABV: 8 – 11%

His beer

Original Gravity: 1.088 Final Gravity: 1.017
IBU: 25
Color: 15

I missed the 1.088 OG.

That likely wouldn't score well in any category, I doubt it is a good qualitative match for strong dark and the judges might call you on the strength in dubbel. 16E is a possibility but most beers that do well there are spiced, sour etc.

If when you taste it you can't figure out where it fits (and taste is how you tell, the recipe doesn't matter) try entering it in all three and see what happens.

+1... I hope you win 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in that flight (if they are all flighted together)

Just wait until its done and then try it along with Rochfort 8 and 10 , St Bernardus 12, Gulden Draak etc.

To me it still looks like a Dark Strong. Who made the recipe.....ask them what they were shooting for.

I tried to message the user that posed the recipe, but their mailbox is full and he can't receive anything new. Ugh.
