Double pour. Last of the 6er. Caps win. Despite working while sick, good day. Looking forward to waching West Brom park the bus over the weekend (because that's the only way they'll survive Poch's high press, In Poch We Trust, COYS!). May venture up to Charm City and meet the legendary Brad Friedel while he watchies with Baltimore Spurs.

Edit: With pic!

Dammit!

Are they moving in before Hopslam season?

I doubt it. Even if they are here I doubt we will get anything other than their year round line up for the first couple of months. When Lagunitas came to town all we got was IPA for the first 2 months and it was draft only.

Good. You scared me there for a bit.

I'll still hook you up with this year's batch.

Where did you get that recipe? It's not going to taste like stout until it has some kind of roasted malt in it.

OT Diet Ginger ale with burger from my grill.
Oops sorry guys.
1 lb of roasted barley.

Hey while I'm at it, I notice a lot of the guys/gals on these threads are really good at quickly replying to comments. That's an area I'd like to really improve at.

Currently I get email updates with anywhere from 5-10 'new replies' to the threads I'm subscribed to.

But by that point the comments are so far buried, I think it would break protocol to dig them up again and add my two cents.

Is there a better way to keep on top of things? Perhaps push notifications to a smart phone??

This thread moves VERY fast. A good number of us just hang out here regularly. A few hundred posts every 24 hours isn't unheard of. Don't worry about it. Welcome to the crew.

And if it isn't too late to reply where I got the recipe:

I've done about 6 batches of stout so far. Typically I change a variable each time, or age it in secondary on a different variable like cacao nibs etc.

My typical recipe is:

5lb 2 row
1 lb rolled oats (quick oats)
2lb flaked barley
1lb black patent

But as I said, I was looking to change it up and try something different.
I made a RIS in the summer with a bit (don't remember how much, though it's in my log) of crystal and added invert sugar to boost my S.G. Loves it so much I wanted to attempt a small < 10.50 batch.

Currently sipping a spiced winter ale recipe I got off Basic Brewing a while back. It's not the worst thing I've ever had. It's better with some age on it.

I'm not a huge fan of stouts but I do enjoy some. The main thing I have found I don't like in stouts is black patent. Tastes acrid and like an ashtray to me and 1lb is quite a bit. For a nice roasty character without the acrid ashtray flavor I use a combination of roasted barley and chocolate malt and get some great results from that. Keep in mind tastes are objective, opinions are like ********, and I'm just some random booze hound from the interwebz

Oh I completely agree. About the pitfalls of black patent. Not about you being a boozhound. Although, how the hell would I know ;)

My LHBS is fairly shotty in that manor. They seem very inconsistent.
It's either black patent, or roasted malt, or chocolate malt, or roasted barley. But never consistently the same thing, and never twice in a row. So when it comes to stout, I'm at the mercy of whatever they have on hand at a particular time.

This is fantastic. My favorite petite sour that I've had.

Yep, that was my favorite, though I enjoyed tart cherry quite a bit as well.

The best way is to stop doing any work and hang out here.

My bottle is almost gone. That stuff really grew on me.

It was a fridge cleaning night, but I only have a photo of the nightcap. Pumple Drumpkin

For the price, it is tough to beat. My bottle is almost gone too. Although usually when I break into it the next day has a pretty large amount of suck. I think I nailed it tonight but I will know for sure tomorrow.
