Found a single at Rouses so decided to try this since all I see about it are love and accolades. Good malt character, mouth feel, carbonation, not too bitter, nicely balanced, 90 IBUs, 9%. Not what I expected from my experience for such a big IPA. My issue is the taste just seems muddled, like a food recipe with a bunch of herbs and spices that conflict. Since this has been called by some the best IPA in the world, I guess I'm not a very good judge of IPAs. I drank it all, wouldn't buy again but I'd drink it if you bought it for me.😉👍

What I've been drinking since 1985! If this is not available I'll drink cider. You might think "why not brew your own ale?", but I've just never really liked anyone's homebrew, even when it is Cooper's Pale Ale or Sparkling Ale, I don't even like the kegged version pubs have on tap, I buy the bottles over the bar. Cider I'm not so fussy with, so I'll cut my brewing teeth on that and consider an Ale later down the track. Cheers!

Some more 1.039 thunder while I enjoy the evening thunder storms.

The Pattinson '71 Boddingtons clone. I hate cribbing other brewer's recipes, but this is a really solid recipe that makes an extraordinary ale.

And my house ordinary bitter. I'm happy with it and I've left it alone for over a year. I'll probably start monkeying around with it again next year because I can never seem to leave anything alone in my brewery. Would be nice if I could gain some brewing wisdom to go along with all this restless perfectionism. It's an ordinary bitter, well made. Sometimes that's plenty good enough, but I'm not a wise brewer.

Yeah, this is getting pretty old.

They say that wisdom comes with age, but to tell you the truth I kinda wish there was a way to trade some of it for a bit more youth.

Erdinger is mostly known for their extensive line of Weissbiers. So when their tasty Original Bavarian Helles Lager showed up on the shelves, - a Barley beer - you can imagine how excited it made me!

I’m not usually the biggest fan of wheat beers, weissbier, hefeweizen and any of the other spice clove and banana ester beers. I’m so happy to see a conventional Helles coming out of Erdinger, all I can say is bring us a Pilsner too!

This Helles has absolutely REMARKABLE clarity, great job Erdinger! Brewed according to the German Purity Law of 1516, this is a fantastic and classic-tasting Helles, one you need to meet! 5.1% ABV, Erdinger produces this, where else, but in Erding Germany, deep into Bavarian beer country about 40 minutes out of Munich. Prost!

Lots of Golden Monkey's showing up these days... guess I'll join you all.

Celebrating oldest GD from SLT flying in soon. Been 3yrs since she's been back. First Austin born in the family.

In addition, chatted with a financial advisor today. Said we're well on track for an early 2027 (59.5yr) retirement but earlier if I wanted. Drink to that also! What a great day!

Congratulations! A lifetime of hard work and smart finances paying off. Retirement's great--I highly recommend it!

Went to Total Wine to get SWMBO’d some Pinot Noir for next week’s trip to the beach. I found a few of these to use as a Quality Control check for my entry for an upcoming competition.

I guess P.J. Fruh still has the lead, but he did have a 120 year head start 😏.

Depending where you look, Henninger is either listed as a “Lager” or a “Helles Lager”. For me, this is a beer that again, truly splits the difference and exists in that delicious “grey area” somewhere between malty Helles and hoppy Pilsner. I’m tellin’ ya, it is right there in the middle!

Most of what I read categorizes it as a Helles, but I think the sneaky old Brewmasters at Henninger have been shoveling a bit more hops into the kettle, this has a slight hop brightness more associated with Pilsners. Again, this isn’t a Pilsner, it is more on the low end toward a Helles. So what does that leave us? Again, it’s RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE!

Henninger is a 4.8% ABV brew and is currently a product of Radeberger Gruppe, KG. It’s one of those brands that has served many masters over the years, once one of Germany’s top sellers. Still tasty and a real bargain, stock up!
