Sample of rice wine made with Jasmine rice. Pretty tasty, not as sweet or tart as the sweet rice wine at this point.

Are you getting any jasmine notes from it? I ask because the jasmine rice lager I made this summer was maybe a bit jasminey if you knew it was a jasmine lager and you closed your eyes real hard and thought really jasminey thoughts. ;)

Last week I tried Firestone Walker 805 N/A beer. Out of fairness and unbiased balance, I also mentioned what a great beer their “Union Jack” is…. And it is!

Firestone brews this masterpiece in Paso Robles, California. A West Coast IPA for sure, but brewed quite a distance from the San Diego IPA wizards. There’s wizardly magic in their smooth 7.0% ABV though. Union Jack also has a respectable 60 IBU. This makes it a very drinkable IPA – Some of those competing 100+ IBU IPA’s can get a bit over the top.

I know, theoretically it is hard to impossible to calculate high IBU’s, luckily this one isn’t that. They do brew with a bucketful of great hops in Union Jack - CTZ, Cascade, Centennial, Simcoe, Citra, Amarillo, and Chinook. Say that between sips – quite a mouthful!

This really is the quintessential West Coastie. – Nice clarity, decent head and lacing, medium carbonation. One of the early ones too - really a terrific brew! Enjoy!

Along with Stone IPA and Port Port Swami’s, one of the giants and, as you pointed out the progenitors of the style.

One of my all time favorite beers.

No great and historic brews today, your humble beer servant has to keep bright-eyed and bushy-tailed this afternoon. “Them numbers mean sumthin” as my old controller cohort used to say. Bean Counters! Bids due today!

That doesn’t mean we don’t knock back a few – a few diet beers that is! Back again to my “Go-To” diet beer. How AB cranks out this perfect flavor-neutral beer time after time is interesting. Some of the other diet beers I’ve had lately have been victims to off-flavors, carbonation issues and other maladies. Not this one… good every time!

50 calories a can, 0% ABV. Gee I wonder what hops are in here? Do they even use hops? Hop extract? Hop oil? I have no idea how they make a beer so light. Watered back? I’m befuddled.

Anyway, it is, and it is good. Perfect for keeping your head together as needed. Enjoy!

It has faint floral notes along with the sweet, slight caramel aroma. Can't say it's jasmine 'cause I don't really know what it smells like.🤷 I did get an interesting look from my wife when I asked if any of her lotions or soaps have jasmine in them.🤔

That just looks awesome. Mine didn't get that color, more pink. The Walmart brand berries just didn't have the color. Flavor's good, though.
Did you crush the thawed berries?

OT:
Coffee at work… trying to keep up with all the fall harvest fuel orders.

If you can get the opportunity to sniff a jasmine bush, do it! Actually, you don't have to seek one out, they come to you at dusk. I spent some time in California and the single thing that I miss the most about that state is sitting on the patio at dusk as the air cooled and the cement of the patio radiated heat and the jasmine bushes wreathed you in their amazing perfume. I say this as a guy that has made his way in the world with a fair bit of actual sweat. Subsequently, I really appreciate the scent of nothing (maybe with a faint whiff of bleach). But jasmine? Yes, please!
