What am I lookin at, rhizomes or roots

Hay guys.
I replanted a container grown hop plant this weekend and managed to break off some of the bits. I'm not sure if there rhizomes or roots.

Opinions?

I'm pretty sure rhizomes are technically roots...;) I'd plant them.


Those are roots. Planting them will yield you nothing.

Rhizomes are not roots (technically). They are stems that live underground, become blanched, and function very similar to roots except the have buds that can grow into entirely new plants.
 
You will be wanting to find some tiny white nubs on them that will grow into new plants. If you can't find those, then you're probably not going to grow it. They are not hard to spot on rhizomes.
