Hey guys, i tried a different cap for my fermenter and look what happened!!!

I fixed it this morning but the question now is, what are the consequences of that? Is my beer compromised because of the oxygen exposure? Maybe even contaminated???

Thanks

The active creation of co2 likely kept the oxygen and bacteria out. Best thing when fermenting in a carboy is to find a blow off tube that fits in the opening of the carboy snugly, so you don't need a stopper at all. The larger internal diameter also reduces the risk of clogging and causing your blow off tube to, well, blow off.

That's a helluva nice beer volcano you got there! First off, I don't think oxygen exposure is likely, given how thick your krausen is and how active the yeast looks. The beer itself looks pretty opaque, so that tells me there is plenty of yeast in suspension working on the beer and eliminating any possible O2 that would try to make its way into the beer - but again, given that thick head of foam, I don't know that oxygen would have an easy time getting to the beer to begin with. Same goes for any other contaminant, really. If you get it covered back up, I bet it will be just fine.

Isn't it Yooper's quote, you're not a real brewer until you've cleaned krausen off the ceiling ;)
If you need more reassurance see the video below. Make sure not to ferment too hot though - your ambient looks okay at 18.3*, hopefully that tiny volume didn't generate too much heat.

LOL, cleaning krausen off the ceilling! Good one :mug:

I really hope this beer turns out ok, this is a Citra / Mosaic IPA with a huge flame-out addition, so this room now smells like hop heaven!!!

Had 3-4 batches like this explode and yes, hop particulate and yeast went everywhere including the ceiling, walls, and clothes that were in the back hall closet I used to ferment in before the 2 chest freezers and brew shed were obtained (the worst incident occurred on Thanksgiving day 2013. Wife was pissed at me for a week as I ruined a good portion of her clothes with that blowout and subsequently got the greenlight for the brew shed project to begin :rockin:).

All of the blow-out beer turned out to be great and honesty the worst blow-out I mention above was of my finest batches ever (winter ale) so I think you are good..just clean it up/sanitize and put everything back together airlock wise as best you can and keep an eye on it and it will be fine.
:fro:
